HAZE a Dreamy, Nostalgic Collection of Ableton Live Instruments
HAZE is a collection of Ableton Live Instruments made from samples of analog and digital synthesizers, programmed to mimic the inherent flaws and inconsistencies of vintage gear. Imagine the soundtrack to a distant memory. HAZE is the musical equivalent of a faded photograph. Warm, rich, a little blurry, nostalgic, and sentimental.
The Creation Process…
I programmed my analog hardware synths and digital virtual synths to mimic some of my favorite old school synth sounds. At the heart of the process was inconsistencies. Inconsistencies of pitch, timbre, and timing. I ran multiple samples of each synth patch I created through various compressors, saturators, frequency shifters, and even recorded many of them directly to cassette tape, before resampling them into Ableton Live.
Once inside of Live, I used the Sampler to build multi-sampled instruments, and placed them into Instrument Racks loaded with effects.
Each HAZE preset has a wealth of Macro Controls to further “haze-out” your sounds.

There’s 32 Macros that allow you to shape the sound to your heart’s desire. I’ve even added a second layer to each instrument that allows you to dial in actual cassette tape hiss to recreate the feel of your favorite aging mix tape.
